Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for Development of Ukraine to send $ 2 million to fight against tuberculosis in the Crimea

On the 6th October, 2011 a memorandum of mutual understanding and cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada of Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Council of Ministers of Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Rinat Akhmetov Foundation for Development of Ukraine was signed. Memorandum was signed within the Foundation' program "Stop TB in Ukraine», which is implemented under support of the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malary.

By signing this Memorandum, the Foundation agrees to provide $ 2 million to address the tuberculosis epidemic.

The money intended to fund the tuberculosis control, belongs to the international community - the Global Fund. Ukraine received these funds 4 failures. Considering our vast experience in tuberculosis control, the money was entrusted to Rinat Akhmetov Foundation.  If we work well, it will show that Ukraine can work well and it can be trusted with that amount of money", - noted the Director of the Charitable Foundation for Development of Ukraine Anatoliy Zabolotny.

Crimean officials have already decided where to allocate funds received from the Foundation.
These funds will be spent for equipment of TB diagnostics laboratories, anti-TB drugs will be purchased, TB doctors will be trained and information campaign among the population will be carried out. It seems to me, state resources are not enough to fight TB. It is necessary to bring together government, private and public sectors. And now we did the first step in this direction by signing the memorandum  - said the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of AR Crimea Konstantin Bakharev
